Event Description
This class moves beyond the basics, encouraging middle-schoolers to treat the hoop like a canvas. Aimed at ages 11–14, the focus is on individual style and using thread to tell a story or make a statement. It’s the perfect environment for teens to slow down, unplug, and experiment with tactile art.
Forget the rigid patterns—this class is about “painting with thread.” We’ll explore how traditional stitches can be used in modern, unconventional ways to create unique wall art, patches, or personalized clothing. Whether they want to stitch a favorite quote, a botanical scene, or an abstract design, students will learn to translate their personal sketches into textured art.
What students will explore:
Artistic Stitching: Mastering versatile stitches like the back stitch, satin stitch, and French knots to create different textures and gradients.
Design Mapping: Learning how to transfer original drawings onto fabric.
Free-Form Expression: Encouraging “sketchy” stitching styles that prioritize movement and mood over perfection.
Skills developed: Visual composition, color theory, patience, and self-confidence through creative problem-solving.
